BEYOND THE COLORS

As the festival of colors is around the corner, we should use this opportunity to inculcate the love and pride for our festivals in our next generation.

Holi is not just about colors and celebrations but also about deep-rooted values that we can instill in our future generations. Here are a few values that Holi teaches us and ways to incorporate them into parenting:

1. Victory of Good Over Evil

  • The story of Holika Dahan is the symbol of triumph of good over evil. Teach children that honesty, kindness, and truthfulness always win in the end.

  • Activity: Share the story of Prahlad and Holika, and ask them what they learned from it. Make tye story interactive. Keep asking their opinion in between the story...

2. Forgiveness and Letting Go

  • Holi encourages us to forgive past mistakes and start afresh.

  • Activity: Ask children to write down anything that made them sad or angry on a piece of paper, then tear it up and let it go, just like we let go of negativity during Holi. Let the past be at its place.

3. Unity in Diversity

  • Holi brings people of all backgrounds together, fostering unity and inclusivity.

  • Activity: Encourage childrento play with everyone, regardless of differences, and explain how colors don’t differentiate between people.

4. Joy in Simplicity

  • Holi teaches us to find happiness in small moments – playing, dancing, and enjoying with loved ones.

  • Activity: Involve kids in making natural colors at home with turmeric, beetroot, or flowers to enjoy the simple joys of creativity.

5. Respect for Nature

  • Using eco-friendly colors and saving water teaches environmental responsibility.

  • Activity: Show kids how to celebrate Holi responsibly with organic colors and minimal water usage.

By integrating these lessons into Holi celebrations, we not only make the festival meaningful but also help shape children into compassionate and mindful individuals.
